Exim Bank of India Now in Chandigarh


Inauguration of Export-Import Bank of India's regional office at Chandigarh on March 24, 2010 by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon'ble Union Finance Minister, in the esteemed presence of H.E. Shri Shivraj Patil, Governor Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh, and Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon'ble Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources. Smt. Export-Import Bank of India's (Exim Bank's) office at Chandigarh was formally inaugurated on March 24, 2010 by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon'ble Union Finance Minister, in the esteemed presence of H.E. Shri Shivraj Patil, Governor Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh and Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon'ble Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources, at a function which was attended by high-level State and Central Government functionaries, and a large number of corporates.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pranab Mukherjee welcomed Exim Bank's decision to open an office in Chandigarh, its tenth regional office in India, and hoped that Exim Bank's presence in the region would serve to further boost and facilitate exports from North-West India. He urged the trade and industry bodies in the region to benefit from the use of financing and support services offered by Exim Bank. He also suggested that there is greater need to give importance to food and energy security issues in the country.

Highlighting the potential of Punjab, H.E. Shri Shivraj Patil observed that Exim Bank plays an important role in the financing of Indian exports and assisting corporates in their globalisation efforts, as also helping in the development of infrastructure. He noted that the setting up of Exim Bank's office in Chandigarh would serve to boost exports from the region and that the Bank could facilitate acquisition of equipment and technologies which could be beneficial for the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Pawan Kumar Bansal, highlighted the contribution of the Union Territory of Chandigarh to the Nation in myriad forms and noted the potential in the UT for the establishment of a hub for the financial sector. He believed that the establishment of Exim Bank's regional office would significantly facilitate access to finance for many potential export oriented units in the region.

Exim Bank's Chairperson and Managing Director, Mrs. Ravneet Kaur, in her address, stated that Exim Bank would serve as a reliable source of finance and consultancy support services for externally oriented companies in the region, supporting them in their efforts to become internationally competitive. She added that Exim Bank supports Indian companies in their trade & investment activities, and that the opening of an office in Chandigarh would further facilitate the same in the North West Region.

Apart from its Head Office in Mumbai, the Bank has regional offices spread across the major cities of India viz. Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune. The overseas offices of the Bank are located in Dakar, Dubai, Durban, London, Singapore and Washington DC. As of Dec 31, 2009, the Bank's total assets stood at Rs. 40,608 crores. The Bank is rated AAA in the domestic market by CRISIL and ICRA and equal to Sovereign rating in the international market. The Bank accepts fixed deposits (rated AAA) for tenors greater than one year. The Bank has a menu of products for the Indian externally oriented companies including working capital finance towards pre-shipment / post-shipment, medium / long terms loans for project / equipment finance, letters of credit / guarantee facilities, etc. The Bank extends loans in Indian Rupees and foreign currency.
