Strategies for a Self-Reliant India

Date: September 16, 2020

Time: 3 pm IST

Venue: Webinar

About the Webinar:

The Government of India has intensified policy reforms for strengthening the manufacturing sector, addressing the issue of import dependence and fostering self-reliance, under its vision of creating an “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. Recognizing the need for a focussed approach to achieve self-reliance across different sectors, India Exim Bank has recently concluded a Study titled “Self- Reliant India: Approach and Strategic Sectors to Focus”. The Study identifies select focus sectors for import substitution and enhancing domestic production, including capital goods, chemicals, defence equipment, electronics, plastics, pulses and edible oil, rare earth metals, solar cells and modules, auto-components, and iron and steel. The Study recommends several sector-specific strategies for promoting domestic production in these sectors, based on an assessment of the specific needs and issues faced by each of the sectors. The Study also highlights certain cross-cutting strategies which can incentivize indigenization across the entire manufacturing sector. This webinar is an attempt to disseminate the key takeaways from the Study and engage with stakeholders to discuss the strategies for indigenization.

The webinar shall broadly cover:

  • Identification of focus sectors for import substitution and enhancing domestic capabilities
  • Sector-specific strategies for indigenization
  • Strategies for improving the overall ecosystem for manufacturing
