The service sector is one of the most significant segments of the Indian economy, accounting for more than 50% of the country's GDP and contributing increasingly to the country's exports. In fact, services exports have consistently outpaced merchandise exports and were valued at US$ 161.8 billion in 2016. Taking cognizance of this, the Government of India has also put in place an enabling policy framework to promote the services sector.

Export-Import Bank of India, in association with the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, is organizing meetings with Service providers and related institutions/associations on the “Strategy for Services Sector” at select centres. The sessions would focus primarily on sectors such as IT-BPM, tourism, real estate and housing, and shipping services.

The objective of the meetings is to interact with select service providers and institutions/associations, with a view to elicit responses and feedback from stakeholders, which in turn would serve as key inputs for the Government of India’s strategy for India’s services sector and exports. Dr. H A C Prasad, Senior Economic Adviser and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance, along with his colleagues would participate in the deliberations.
